Peanut wood is a variety of petrified wood that is usually dark brown to black in colour.  It is recognized by its white-to-cream-coloured markings that are oval in shape and about the size of a peanut.
Found along the edges of the Kennedy Ranges, inland of Carnarvon, Western Australia; it received it’s name due to the light coloured markings that resemble peanuts.  The light coloured area were originally holes bored into the wood by a marine bivalve called Teredo (shipworm).  This indicates that the wood was submerged or floating in the ocean millions of year ago, prior to petrification.
These Peanut Wood cabochons have been set with solid 925 sterling silver, ensuring many years of quality and enjoyment. Discover our  Handmade Earrings Australia .
